Seissan

There is a market on Friday morning (good to turn up early) where you can buy fruit, vegtables, cheese, meats, olives, wine, etc – be very careful of the pretty woman who is selling only cheese away from the other cheese sellers – it is outrageously expensive and she offers you lots to taste – you have been warned!

Samatan

Traders and local producers arrive in the little town from all over south-west France, and the buzz of the French market day grows as they set up their stalls and chat to each other and to their customers. If you are looking for the best of local produce to eat, or colourful fabrics, or perhaps even fashionable clothes for the children, there is no better place. Samatan's market is especially good, and a treat not to be missed. If it is cold and rainy there is also a cinema. See the gallery page for photos from June 2010.

Vic Fezensac (34 miles from A Pedourde)

There are evening markets on the last 2 Wednesdays of July, and the first two of August, over 150 stall holders cram the narrow streets, and the car park vanishes to expose traditional French traders selling their home baked goods. The bandstand comes into its own, competing with the band on the next corner playing traditional Basque numbers. From confit (duck) to an old fashioned cassoulet, it’s an evening of temptation offering some of the finest cuisine in France. Pause for a locally produced saucisson, Floc de Gascogne or Armanac, whilst lapping up the traditional French ambience.  

Moncorneil Grazan (three minutes from A Pédourdé)

There is an excellent restaurant called Auberge d'Astarac, it can be a bit quiet and serious but the food is very good with a heavy emphasis on fois gras.  The atmospere is a little hushed so if you want a more lively place this is not right for you - however, the food is good.

Simorre

A quiet medieval town only 7km away there is a post office, general store, cafe, patisserie, hairdressers etc. The fortified church is worth visiting, originally on the pilgrims route to Compostela, it provides a peaceful haven today. See the gallery page for photos.

Masseube

Masseube has the best local supermarket (Super U) where you can get just about anything. There is a public swimming pool where there is a big slide and fountains. is A golf course is situated just outside Masseube.
